Theme: Digital Solutions for a Circular Economy
General Context: In a regional context marked by growing challenges in sustainable development, resource management, and the transition toward more responsible economic models, digital innovation stands out as a major strategic lever. It was with this vision that the first edition of the Cross-Border Hackathon was organized by the University of Tunis El Manar, held at the CIFFIP Lac 2 training center. This event aimed to strengthen academic cooperation in the Maghreb and stimulate the engagement of young talents around circular economy issues.
Hackathon Objectives
- Promote digital innovation in service of the circular economy;
- Strengthen inter-university cooperation between Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya;
- Foster the exchange of skills and best practices among Maghreb students;
- Encourage the co-creation of digital solutions addressing concrete environmental issues;
- Promote student talent and stimulate the spirit of initiative and entrepreneurship.
Participants and Team Composition
The Hackathon brought together nine cross-border teams, each composed of:
- One Tunisian student;
- One Algerian student;
- One Libyan student;
- And one coach.
This mixed composition created a collaborative environment based on cultural diversity, complementary skills, and regional-scale teamwork.
Organization and Framework
The first edition took place on April 10 and 11, 2025, at the International Center for Trainer Training and Pedagogical Innovation (CIFFIP). The event was organized by the University of Tunis El Manar, with support from several partner universities from the three participating countries.
Hackathon Proceedings
Over two days, the teams worked intensively on designing innovative digital solutions related to the circular economy. The work focused on identifying current environmental issues, proposing innovative concepts, and developing prototypes or application solutions through a collaborative and participatory approach.

The Jury
The jury consisted of two Algerian representatives (University of Batna and ESGEN), one representative from the University of Tunis El Manar, and a representative from the sponsor.
Results and Impact
- Production of several innovative digital projects oriented towards the circular economy;
- Consolidation of academic relations between partner universities;
- Creation of a space for exchange and dialogue among Tunisian, Algerian, and Libyan youth.
